Sister Maureen-Thérèse McGroddy, RSHM, died peacefully Saturday, February 27 at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Tarrytown, New York.
Sister Maureen-Thérèse McGroddy RSHM, previously known as Sister de Lisieux, died at Phelps Memorial Hospital, Sleepy Hollow, Saturday, February 27, 2021. She was 82 years of age and had been a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 62 years.
She was born Maureen McGroddy in New York City, NY, on June 6, 1938, to Charles and Helen Cleary McGroddy.
She received a BA in Liberal Arts from Marymount College, Tarrytown, NY, and an MA in Guidance from Catholic University in Washington, DC.
She came to know the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary when she was a student at Marymount Secondary School in Tarrytown, NY. She entered the congregation at the RSHM Novitiate in Tarrytown, NY, on September 8,1956. She made her first vows on June 15, 1958 in Tarrytown, where she also made her final vows on August 25, 1963.
Sister Maureen-Thérèse’s first years on ministry were at Marymount in Arlington, VA. There she taught in the Junior School and was a dormitory prefect in the Junior College. (1958-1971).
She spent the next 15 years in Rome, Italy, as guidance counselor at Marymount International School (1972-1987).
When she left Rome, Sister Maureen-Thérèse went to Berkeley, CA, for a year-long sabbatical program at the School of Applied Theology. The following year she began a 25 year-long ministry there as director of admissions (1988-2013).
After retiring from the School of Applied Theology, she remained in Berkeley until she moved to Marymount Convent in 2017. She was a member of the Convent community at the time of her death.
Sister Maureen-Thérèse is survived by her brothers and sisters, Charles McGroddy, James McGroddy, Patricia McGroddy Fleming, Helen McGroddy Murphy, Peter McGroddy, nieces and nephews, and by the members of her religious community.

I knew Sr Therese as a student in Rome. She was such a wonderful person. She is missed.
