RSHM Sisters Join March to End Fossil Fuels

by Jacquelyn Porter, RSHMCategory: Updates

On September 17, prior to the annual General Assembly at the UN and the UN Climate
Ambition Summit, several of our sisters joined thousands participating in the March to End Fossil
Fuels in Manhattan. Among other climate-related demands, they called on world leaders to phase out fossil fuels, beginning with a halt to new drilling for gas and oil.

RSHM Sisters Anne Considine, Virginia Dorgan, Kathleen Kanet and Adrian Dominincan Dusty Farnum, OP, met with RSHM Sisters Jacquelyn Porter and Veronica Brand for a beautiful and festive liturgy celebrated by Paulist Father Eric Andrews at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle on 59th Street. After the Mass, most of the congregation joined others outside the Church where the Catholic Climate Covenant led a gathering that expressed a sense of urgency and the glimmer of hope our young people and others experience.

We joined this march of many and diverse groups processing through the streets with colorful
banners and posters, beginning at 56th Street and Broadway and ending at 51st Street and First
Avenue, near the UN.

Of course, a major event calls for a festive closing and we reassembled with the 93rd Street
community to relax, unpack the day and enjoy an informal dinner.
