Cormaria 75th Anniversary Celebration

Cormaria Retreat Center is set to celebrate its 75^th Anniversary on Saturday, November 16. The festivities will begin with a Mass at St. Rosalie’s Church in Hampton Bays at 11 am, presided over by the Most Reverend William F. Murray, Bishop Emeritus of Rockville Centre. Following the Mass, a luncheon reception will be held at Villa Paul Restaurant in Hampton Bays at 12:30 pm.

In 1877, several Sisters of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary came to the United States and established their first ministry in Sag Harbor. They took over St. Andrew’s parish school and established both a boarding and day school, as well as a free night school for young women. In 1943, they purchased the historic Havens Estate and turned it into a finishing schools for Catholic girls, naming it Cormaria. On Thanksgiving Day, 1949, the school became a retreat center.
